Six Senses Fiji, luxury new five star resort

A luxury new five-star resort, on a gorgeous sandy beach on Malolo Island – just 15 minutes by helicopter from Nadi Airport – (25 kms). Six Senses have successfully created an exclusive village like feel amongst the 24 private villas, each with its own pool and outside daybed and a dining table to enjoy a meal outside plus an outdoor bathroom and soaking tub. There are also residences offering 3-5 bedrooms’ either situated along the beachfront of a beautiful curved horseshoe lagoon or on the hilltop overlooking the bay. We stayed in a gorgeous private beachfront villa (villa 1), which was a favourite location as it was on the centre of the beach and really close to the water sports centre, main restaurant and bar area and a short walk to the spa and gym. The villas are just gorgeous, really spacious with the lovely extras such as a fruit bowl which is replenished daily, Nespresso machine and pure Fiji product in the bathroom.
The resort caters well for both couples looking for an intimate escape as well as families or larger groups of friends with the residences of 3, 4 and 5 bedrooms. My pick would be either residence 3 or 11 on the hilltop with stunning views of the sea and incredible sunsets to watch most nights. Other little touches - Each bungalow or villa is assigned a Gem who looks after your every need and is only a phone call away. If you are planning with a young family and want to book a residence then just make sure that you let us know so that we can book one of the residences with the bedrooms attached as some of them have the bedrooms in separate stand along pavilions, great for teenagers or groups of couples travelling but not ideal for families with smaller children.
The theme here is wellness resort meets sustainable living meets adventure playground. You can choose to drink resort made kambucha with every meal and amazing fresh seafood matched with garden greens and herbs while you partake in one of their wellness programmes. We sampled the 5-night yogic detox which included plenty of massage, a wellness health screening, Yoga, meditation and even an intestinal cleanse!
With a choice of two restaurants, and a pizzeria there was plenty of food choice, the menu is still being changed and tested but overall the food was a good quality, a little bit hit and miss at times but you really get a sense that the food and beverage team are working hard to improve the overall experience. While we were there the breakfast menu was changed and we really enjoyed the new menu.
The staff were exceptional, they have a friendly, relaxed laid back style which is consistent with the Six Senses philosophy, you really did get the feeling of being welcomed into their village. The GM and head of catering are around every day, checking in with the clients to ensure that they are all happy and well looked after.
Activities…We were spoilt for water activities including sailing, diving, snorkeling, SUP’s, Kayaks & surfing. Weekly activities were posted so for the adrenalin, fitness junkies you could be kept busy all day on the water, or on land with nature walks, the gym with the latest equipment, jungle gym, tennis court or surf academy. Or if you prefer there was also the option to just relax all day by your private pool, enjoy a sunset cocktail and perhaps experience one of the rejuvenating programmes on offer at the spa. Daily yoga was a highlight with the Spa Manager – one of the stars of the resort! Another fun experience was the outdoor movie theatre by the Pizzeria – movie under the stars.
Getting there…The best way to arrive is via helicopter straight from the airport, a short 15-minute ride and absolutely worth it for convenience and speed not to mention the scenery. The other option is to head to Denarau Marina from the airport and take the speedboat ride to the resort – approximately 35 minutes
Overall....A new fantastic resort for Fiji, you can really relax and unwind, staff are amazing, villas are gorgeous and even when the resort is at maximum capacity you get a sense of calm and quiet.
Watchpoint… There is still a bit of construction going on with some further residences being built so it would be good to avoid being in a residence next to the constructions site – but we can help with that!
