Kokomo Private Island, Fiji – A truly hidden gem in the South Pacific!

I am just back from Fiji where I was lucky enough to stay at the gorgeous luxury Kokomo Private Island.  One word….. WOW!

‘Kokomo’ truly is a hidden gem in the South Pacific. This exclusive tropical resort, designed by Australia property developer Lang Walker, is a “private escape for the intergenerational traveller; a place to celebrate life, where big smiles, genuine laughter, a warm welcome and seamless hospitality is effortless”.

Kokomo is just a short 45-minute flight, by Kokomo’s own seaplane or helicopter, from Nadi airport. The resort lies just South of Fiji’s capital Suva, on the edge of the celestial Kadavu Island Group.

The transfer is made easy; Kokomo are excellent in coordinating to accommodate their flight times with the international flight times to minimize waiting times at the airport.  You are met on arrival by a Kokomo representative, your bags are taken from you and you’re escorted to the Kokomo check-in counter.

An all-inclusive (except alcohol) private island resort, Kokomo brings a whole new level of exclusivity to Fiji, where everything is taken care of the moment you land at Nadi Airport.  Whether you’re looking for a multi-generational holiday, a group of friends celebrating a special occasion or a romantic haven for a couple Kokomo has it all.

The 21 beachfront villas (including 1-2 & 3 bedrooms) and 5 residences are fantastic, with absolute privacy and spacious in design. They’re a mix of Fijian design (using local timbers and stone) and ‘modern’ interior. Attention to every detail is thought of to make your stay so incredible.

The one-bedroom beachfront villas have a large separate lounge to relax in the balmy Fiji breezes out of the sun if you don’t want to lay by your private pool. In the main room, behind the King Size bed, is a huge ensuite bathroom with shower inside, with an adjoining outside shower, plus a separate area next to it with a large bathtub.  Gorgeous Pure Fiji product is everywhere!

The private infinity pool in each of the beachfront villas is a really good size and the villas themselves are very private.   You enter the villas through a large private gated door into a beautiful private garden before entering the actual villa.  All villas are absolute beachfront. The balmy water was crystal clear, turtles playing just in front of our villa most days.

The delicious food was absolutely stand out, amazing! The best I’ve experienced in Fiji, and they’ve even nailed the morning coffee!   Walker D’ Plank is the place to go for a cocktail to watch the sunset by, then Head Chef ‘Caroline’ joins you to discuss the evening menu options. The ‘farm to table’ Asian Fusion inspired dishes are incredible, no written menu, just a choice of ‘what’s fresh’ for the day and what you fancy for dinner.  The Beach Shack (which, by the way looks nothing like a beach shack), serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, pastries baked fresh each day and the option of the tasting menu at dinner is a must!  Private dining experiences and picnics are highly recommended. A fabulous wine and cocktail list accompanies the incredible food!

A snorkeling trip we took to one of the outer reefs was spectacular.  The islands are surrounded by the Great Astrolabe Reef, the fourth largest on the planet, renowned for its world-class diving. Beautiful! Just before we left they’d spotted a humpback whale not far off shore so we spent the first 30 minutes just cruising along beside the whale whilst it played & breached and put on a display for us, breathtaking!

We also ventured to the islands Yaukuve Spa Sanctuary which is situated amongst lush tropical gardens. There are 9 treatment rooms with the relaxation pavilion at the centre. Yoga is also on offer most days and there’s a fully equipped gym and personal trainer on hand.

I also took a stand up paddle board just 50 metres from our villa to snorkel on a small coral reef and was lucky to have the chance to hang out with some turtles I encountered on my way back.

Other activities available are diving, fishing and surfing trips, or stay landside and have a hit of tennis, go to the well-equipped gym or wander on one of the many walking trails over the island. The gardens around the resort are just exquisite. The island is dotted with pockets of lush rainforest and stretches of stunning white sandy beaches.

Kokomo has the most amazing kids club, more of a complete daycare centre catering from 0 to teens in different areas.  So many activities for the kids to do, from board games, basketball, tennis, swimming, cooking, arts & crafts, pool, pinball machines, bicycles, helping in the farm & much more.   A free Kokomo nanny service is offered with every villa for 0-3 year olds from 9-5pm.

Before your stay you are sent your pre-arrival personalized ‘survey’ to complete so that the resort has everything ready for you on arrival based on your personal preferences. They think of everything!

Kokomo currently has a special running on their beachfront villas, stay 5, pay 4.  Valid until the 31 March 2019 (some block out dates apply) and the residences have some stay/pay deals as well.

Please contact us for more information.  Would love to chat to you more about Kokomo Private Island!
