Zoerg travelled to Four Seasons Hotel Megève in the heart of the French Alps.
Come with me and discover our stunning new resort, Four Seasons Hotel Megève, which opened in December 2017.
When I think of the French Alps, I think of winter sports. Undoubtedly this is one of the world’s best ski regions, and our location next to the slopes of Mont d’Arbois is definitely a huge benefit for skiers. But what about the rest of the year? This is where I am still completely blown away. There is so much to do here in spring, summer and fall!
While we were shooting, I jotted down a few notes about Megève to hopefully inspire you.
My first impressions...
It takes only 75 minutes to drive from beautiful Geneva to Megève, and the trip is an absolute feast for the eyes. Along the way, there are little Alpine villages with cobblestone streets and scenic views with beautiful flora and fauna.
Once you arrive at the resort, you fall in love right away. It has a contemporary style, but with only 55 guest rooms and suites, it still feels very cosy, keeping all the charm of the French Alps. There are many fireplaces, “gemütlich” sitting areas with breathtaking views, and an impressive art collection. You get a deep sense of the Alpine tradition established by the Rothschild family, who first created a ski resort here almost a century ago.
You must spend time outdoors to experience Megève's natural beauty, whether horseback riding, hiking, taking a romantic carriage ride, or even mountain biking around Lac de Javen (Javen Lake). You feel connected to nature all day long.
Golfers will not want to miss out on the 18-hole Mont d’Arbois Golf Course. It’s one of the oldest Alpine golf courses in the world, but it’s surprisingly flat – making it accessible for different skill levels.
With Kids for All Seasons activities and our Teen Club, there is a lot to keep younger ones entertained. They can do a bit of farming at the hotel’s petting zoo, featuring goats, chicken, rabbits and ponies. They might also want to cuddle Nemo, the hotel’s resident Bernese mountain dog. He’s usually waiting at the door to greet everyone.
So many stars...
Our hotel has six venues for dining and drinks, including the two-Michelin-star restaurant Le 1920. I was particularly impressed by the wine cellar, featuring the private wine collection of the Baroness Rothschild. In addition to the hotel, Four Seasons also manages five other nearby restaurants in the region. Many also have Michelin stars!
I'll always remember...
The beauty of the countryside. The peaceful silence. The untouched landscapes. This vastness – you cannot stop gazing into the distance.
Don't leave home without...
Solid footwear for hiking and a bathing suit for the fantastic spa with an indoor-outdoor swimming pool. And be sure to leave room in your suitcase – there is great shopping in downtown Megève!
